Canon has released its first 35mm ENG Cine Servo lens: the new Canon 17-120mm T2.9-3.9. This lens delivers excellent image quality throughout a long focal range. The servo handgrip makes it a great lens for documentary, handheld, or ENG work because it gives you the ability to control focus, iris, and zoom. It can easily be detached if you don’t need it as it is only connected by three screws. Even better, when you reinstall the servo handgrip, there is no need for manual re-alignment.

ENG shooters will love how quickly the lens is able to focus. The focus barrel is able to go from the M.O.D. (Minimum Object Distance) to infinity in an impressive 1.6 seconds. The Canon 17-120mm Cine Servo lens has a variable aperture T2.9-3.9. You can get the maximum aperture of T2.9 from 17-91mm, and then it ramps up from there to T3.9 from 91-120mm.

At the time of writing, the Canon Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.9-3.9 ENG lens is expected to be available in August 2014 with a price of $33,000.
