Late last year, we reported on the new DJI Inspire 1 drone that comes with its own 4K camera. This past week at CES, they unveiled a useful accessory for it, a gimbal mount that allows you to detach the camera from the drone to use it as a handheld. This Inspire 1 handheld mount also has a spot for you to place your iPhone so that you can use it as a viewfinder.
This handheld mount should prove to be very convenient for filmmakers who go out and shoot drone & stock photography in rural areas. It basically allows you to fit all the tools you need to do both aerial and handheld shots in a single case.
The DJI Inspire 1 handheld mount also has an input for an external mic, and could easily be used to shoot documentaries.
DJI says the handheld gimbal will be available in Q2 of this year. At the time of writing, no pricing information has been released.
*The Inspire 1 Handheld Mount would later become the Osmo.
